Grain Elevators

This past weekend was spent in the northeast corner of the Texas Panhandle to celebrate my parents 60th wedding anniversary. They were married June 1, 1949 in the Methodist Church of the small town of Follett, Texas. I have many relatives in the area and unfortunately do not visit them as often as I could. One evening I drove out west of town to try and get some images of the grain elevators when the setting sun could light them up.

My parents took me to the exact location were dad proposed to my mother. They also showed me a couple of places where we lived when I was first born. This small town has a population of about 400 people. The community is primarily populated with farmers and ranchers. They do work hard and have that laid back mentality. Everyone knows each other, people are friendly and inviting. My sisters and I walked to the drug store for a cherry coke just as we did when we were younger. A pretty inviting life style to me but I wonder how many people could live without there shopping malls or their favorite coffee shop within a 30 minute drive?

  1. I have seen many grain elevators . . . but that blue sky!
Great job of capturing that sky. Must be a long way from cities as the air seems so clean.

  2. Love the wide blue TX sky and the essay. Very nice writing for a trip down memory lane. Evokes some of my own nicer childhood memories. Tfs.

  4. I apologize for the multiple posts (now this is the third), but I was trying to do some catch up on my blackberry while my oil was getting changed yesterday. I kept getting a message that I couldn’t post, but I see my BB was lying to me! LOL. Have a good one.
