Allium

Took this image at Inniswood Gardens last summer. One of those images I shrugged off when first looking at it then found something I liked about it a year later. I did some slight cropping and adjusted the contrast. It’s good to revisit the archives.

I also want to share this quote of Galen Rowell’s I found on a post by David Hyde. “The most meaningful photographic styles are always reflections of the internal. We react not so much to what an outdoor photographer sees, but to how he or she sees and renders the subject for us. Personal style comes from within, from a photographer’s unconscious and conscious choices.”  Galen Rowell’s Vision: The Art of Adventure Photography

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

The ‘self’ I Am

with 5 comments

Leaves and Shutters

Chris Orwig mentions in his book Visual Poetry that if we tap into what makes us different, we can begin to find photographs that are uniquely our own. I agree! But, that suggests what makes us different must be important. I feel the deeper I come to understanding myself the more interesting my photography becomes and the clearer my vision.

When I take those walks with my camera I admit I am searching for a photograph. Yet my real purpose is to listen to what’s inside me. What I see and photograph is uniquely mine. Even if I had someone walking with their camera beside me, we each would come back with our own images. Case in point would be the Paul and Tom experience as they walked side-by-side on the streets of New York. What they saw and photographed was uniquely their own.

I am the photographer I am because life’s journey has helped to mold me to be the ‘self’ I am. The images I create are uniquely mine.

Men cannot understand Truth because they cling to self, because they believe in a love self, because they believe self to be the only reality, whereas it is the one delusion. The Way of Peace by James Allen

Let’s See What This Does…..

I’m learning to experiment more. And, that’s a good thing. Here’s why I say that. When I first started shooting digital I used Photoshop Elements 2 as my photo editor. Since I had the less expensive option to the full blown Photoshop package there were a few things I could not do. I therefore had a very simple workflow which meant I adjusted white balance in Nikon Capture then move to Elements. There I would crop, play with levels, saturation, and sharpen. Other than playing around with some filters, I’ve just stayed in that mode of post processing for the past 6 years. After buying the Macbook last fall I upgraded to Elements 6 and pretty much have the same workflow. Read the rest of this entry »

My Favorite Color

My Favorite Color

Want to post and image taken just because it was there. I saw the patterns and the colors but not much more. With the digital era we can take such images for more often and see later on what we have. There are some things I would like to have done differently which is another gift given to us by the digital era. The digital era has invited into a constantly open classroom. There are no grades only the creations of our vision. Green is one of my favorite colors.

Love Curves

with one comment

Natures Curves

Natures Curves

Curves. I like curves. I made a post a while back where it seems nature uses so many curves in it’s design. Plants are a prime example. After a light breakfast this morning, and because I ate way to much last night, I sat outside in the morning sun visiting with an elderly man and his wife. Across from me was this planter where the green plant’s curves caught my attention. I came back later to take this image. It has a pleasing contrast and love that curve.

We finish up tonight so I will be home the next two days. Will try to catch up on stuff around the apartment. We also had major corporate news yesterday with our company and want to see how all that plays out.

Hope everyone has a good day.
