I never saw it

Window

This image came up unexpected. By that I mean I did not see this or envision it. What caught my attention was the late afternoon light. We had rain and overcast skies all day until late afternoon when the clouds broke and the sun came out casting long shadows. I saw the light against the bulding and grabbed my camera. I honestly did not see the window until I looked through the view finder and then it was all I could see. I moved around placing it in various positions in the frame while keeping my reflection out of the window. I also expected to convert it to black and white but I do like the subtle soft hues instead. I settled on this one and ran it through Topaz Adjust. I never saw it coming.

In a Cycle

It's Raining Outside

The last 2 days I had off it snowed. I then worked for 4 days and while I was gone they had sunshine 2 of those 4 days. I’ve been home now for 2 days and it’s been cloudy and overcast both days. It has rained all day today and may turn to snow tomorrow. I seem to be in one of those cycles where funky weather is hanging around the neighborhood when I’m home. I leave in 2 days and have a few friends who want to see me leave. 🙂

I will admit I enjoyed the peaceful and calming quiet of the windless snowfall and it was pretty. As I stared out the window, mezmerised by the drifting delicate snow flakes, I found my mind wandering off to a warmer season called Spring. I dreamed of venturing off to one of the parks to see the colors the rising sun would create, or listen to birds sing a good morning song, or feel the coolness of the morning dew, look for new plants sprouting upward. And, today with the light rain I yearn even more for Spring.

Starting Out Nice

A Morning Sunrise

The morning sunrise through my hotel window. Most of the my flying lately has required early morning show times, some as early as 4:35 AM. Yesterday morning I was in Manchester, NH and could sleep in late because our flight time was noon. As I saw the orange glow of the morning sunrise through my window I jumped out of bed and grabbed the camera. Standing in a cold room with only my shorts on is a sure way to wake up. So after a couple shots and enjoying the sunrise colors I showered and began another day. The day had already started out nice.

Morning Light and Shadows

Morning Light and Shadows

I am sitting in my hotel room in Richmond, VA. The flying has been tough the last two days with all the snowy and cold weather moving across the country and pounding the eastern coast. Not much opportunity to get out and shoot so I grabbed one from a few days ago. It is lightly snowing now and expected to continue through the night.  This was taken a few days ago and is one of those images where I just wanted to fire off a few shots of whatever I was around. Love to hear the shutter.

A Good Book to Read?

Some images just do not need words.

The ‘self’ I Am

with 5 comments

Leaves and Shutters

Chris Orwig mentions in his book Visual Poetry that if we tap into what makes us different, we can begin to find photographs that are uniquely our own. I agree! But, that suggests what makes us different must be important. I feel the deeper I come to understanding myself the more interesting my photography becomes and the clearer my vision.

When I take those walks with my camera I admit I am searching for a photograph. Yet my real purpose is to listen to what’s inside me. What I see and photograph is uniquely mine. Even if I had someone walking with their camera beside me, we each would come back with our own images. Case in point would be the Paul and Tom experience as they walked side-by-side on the streets of New York. What they saw and photographed was uniquely their own.

I am the photographer I am because life’s journey has helped to mold me to be the ‘self’ I am. The images I create are uniquely mine.

Warm Glow

Warm Light

Warm Glow

Another hotel room. I guess we all will take images of what we see around us. In my case it’s a lot of hotels over the past two years. For some of you that may seem boring but I must say I’ve stared in wonder at some views from windows. That’s even been swimming around in my head for theme gallery. I am also taken by some of the light and colors we can find through windows. In this image the orange shade gives off a warm glow to the whole room. It’s simple and what I experience.
